Melbournian singer/songwriter Francesca Gonzales has hit us with a hauntingly beautiful new track Better Person. Gonzales teamed up with Matt Neighbour (Matt Corby, The Avalanches, Courtney Barnett) who produced and mixed the tune, resulting in an instant classic. The songs pop/indie mix is paired perfectly with Francscas vocals to create this singalong all round tune. Gonzales makes this song work with angelic, soothing vocals overdubbed a few times to give us the impression of a chorus of Francescas. Her voice is really beautifully used in this song, giving those soothing, soulful qualities reminiscent of magnificent 90's indigenous band Tiddas, who were the queens of inner city earth mother and general arty type communities and cultures in the Northern Melbourne enclaves of Norths Fitzroy and Carlton of course, the equivalent in Sydney stretching from Newtown to Marrickville, in Brisbane New farm and Fortitude Valley and North Hobart and New Town in Hobart. The drums are brought in with a nice dubbing, underwater sound at the beginning of the song, kicking it off and from there Gonzales launches into a nice, laid back, soulful song full of richly sweet vocals and colourful emotion, with a wonderful, summery warmth.
