Simon Imrei is an acoustic guitarist/vocalist from the Mornington Peninsula. Throughout the years Simon has kept a steady roster of gigs performing around Victoria with a mix of blues/soul and folk inspired cover versions as well as traditional pub classics and acoustic favourites. Simon draws influence from seminal blue/soul artists and guitarists like Eric Clapton, Bill Withers, Mark Knopfler and Stevie Wonder along with classic songwriters like Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Cat Stevens and Neil Young to create a set blending looped beats & rhythmic guitar with layered riffs and vocals. Let go is one of those nice, late night-sounding pop-rock songs with a gentle lilt but driving tempo. The intricate, delicately plucked guitar sounds like Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler while Imrei's voice sounds in turns like Willie Nelson, David Bowie and Foreigner's Lou Gramm, a very interesting combination. Let Go itself is about a young woman emotionally attached to a relationship that may or may not be good for her, but mostly gives her love and release and she's committed to it, up for the challenge. It's a mostly affectionate and supportive recounting of such a situation, and only a little bit sad. this is definitely the kind of music you could enjoy in a late night bar with a pint of beer or a whiskey, taking comfort in the transient freindship of the strangers at the bar on any particular night.
