The song is, in fact, about death if you listen closely. Some of the song's lyrics, especially the chorus' "When I go out, I wanna go out dancing," can be interpreted as Minogue saying that she wants to literally go out of this life dancing. Which in doing so Minogue and her songwriters create an expertly bittersweet combination of joy and loss, a statement of acknowledging that death is on the horizon, somewhere in the future and one day this will all end, and simultaneously embracing the present. So as if to say well, I'm here now and I'm going to enjoy it while there's still breath in my lungs. The comment that "when I go out, I wanna go out dancing" has a somewhat comic element which is reinforced by the video, all kitschy glitter and playing with confected joy and artifice, it's also a statement of defiance and a sweet, whimsical comment suggesting the denial of death. Which in itself is a black, depressing thing but it's almost like Kylie's saying she wants to stay animated and in this state of sweet whimsy until the very end, even crossing over into death. But you know that's not going to happen and death will be final and that's the sad part. Musically the song is a clever amalgam of country and disco, or "countrified disco" of the likes we've never heard before. And it's nice, Kylie doesn't stray too much from her dance roots but the song dips deeply into country enough to give it an interesting twist. The use of the auto-tune on Kylie's voice in the chorus gives it an interesting effect with a pleasing result, still staying firmly in the tent of camp dance. [...]
